Crude oil processing - ratio measurement and control

Positive displacement meters maintain accuracy throughout the broad range of fluid viscosities
Crude oil refining

Hydrocarbon refining facilities require accurate flow measurement instruments to safely and efficiently run their distillation and cracking processes. These same instruments also provide data for overall refinery loss management. The exceptional accuracy and reliability of Max flow meters is the reason that they are regularly specified for refining applications.
Many refinery fluid measurement applications are simply measuring fluid flow from one entity or process to another. These include custody transfer of incoming and outgoing crude oil and refined products and intermediary, internal fluid transfers from associated refinery processes. Although these transfers are not complex, measuring the transfers with a high degree of accuracy and reliability is critical to overall plant efficiency.

Max meters are found in Oilfield production applications measuring and accurately blending scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors and other chemical additive. Refineries rely on the process ratio measurement and control, for additive injection applications as these are some of the more complex flow measurements in a refinery. These applications require precision measurement to achieve the intended results, because many times the ratio of an additive is quite low, necessitating a critical low flow rate measurement. The primary advantage of Max flow meters is their +/-0.2% of reading accuracy, which is available over a 100:1 or greater turndown. Many refinery applications have turndowns exceeding a 50:1 flow range, such as precise batching control or low flow rate additive injection. Max offers simplicity and cost savings with the best positive displacement flow meters for these applications.

Positive displacement meters maintain their accuracy throughout the broad range of fluid viscosities encountered in petroleum distillation.  This capability reduces measurement variability and results in better environmental compliance.  With Max positive displacement meters and their direct volumetric measurement, you can count on accurate measurement regardless of where you are in the flow range, and viscosity spectrum

Optimizing the process yield, from the lightest distilled hydrocarbons through the heaviest cracked distillates, provides total control over your production of naphtha, gasoline, kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, lube oil, fuel oil and asphalt.

Benefits provided by Max flow meters in Refinery applications:

  • Highly accurate flow measurement over a wide flow range
  • A short, in-line flow path results in minimal pressure drop
  • No straight pipe runs required
  • Install anywhere with no flow conditioning
  • Measures pulsating or steady state flow
  • Measure all hydrocarbon based liquids with one instrument
  • Simple and fast installation and commissioning at start-up
  • Did we mention, No straight pipe runs required!
